Barbados National Preparations

In preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, the Government of Barbados established a National Preparatory Committee on 12 April 2001. The Committee is composed of representatives from the following government agencies: Ministry of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources; Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. The lead agency for this Committee is the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources.

Major groups are also represented, and include a representative of Social Partnership, as well as a Youth representative.

Other participants include the Chairman / Representative of the National Commission on Sustainable Development.

In addition, Barbados is undertaking a national review and assessment of progress in the implementation of Agenda 21, which was completed by 15 June 2001. Other national preparatory activities are in the process of being finalized.
