Preparatory Process

Canada National Preparations

In preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, the Government of Canada has established a Secretariat to manage the national preparatory process. The Secretariat reports to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Environment Canada, and the Canadian International Development Agency.

The Secretariat will ensure the comprehensive consultation and engagement of Canadians in Canada's preparations for the Summit. The Secretariat will hold roundtable consultations with its provincial, territorial, and aboriginal partners. It will also undertake an array of consultation and engagement activities with a wide variety of groups, including non-governmental organizations, municipal governments, parliamentarians, youth groups, the private sector, academics, and the general public.

The Secretariat is also coordinating the preparation of Canada's National Report, an assessment of Canada's progress on sustainable development since Rio.
