China National Preparations

In preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, the Government of the People's Republic of China established a National Preparatory Committee on 2 July 2001. The Committee is chaired by H.E. Mr. Zeng Peiyan, Chairman of the State Development Planning Commission. Members of the Committee include the following government agencies: State Development Planning Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, State Environmental Protection Administration, State Economic and Trade Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Land and Resources, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, State Forestry Administration, China Meteorological Administration, State Oceanic Administration, and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The mandate of the National Preparatory Committee is to prepare the Chinese National Report on Sustainable Development, formulate and coordinate national policies on issues relevant to the Summit.

Under other preparatory activities, China hosted the Intergovernmental Meeting for North East Asia for preparations of the World Summit from 25 - 28 July 2001.
