Sustainable Development Visions

Description of this Initiative

The Sustainable Development Visions for the 21st Century is an initiative organized as a national level competition. The effort involves major groups, invited by their National Summit coordination mechanism, preparing short essays outlining their visions of future challenges, concerns and opportunities regarding future sustainable development actions at the national, regional and international levels.

The competition can have an inter-generational focus as well by inviting essays from different age groups. The national preparatory committee, or similar coordination mechanism, would select the most inspiring vision and submit it to Summit Secretariat. The winning essays will be published as a UN Publication and disseminated throughout the Summit preparatory process, as well as at the Summit meeting.
