The Preparatory Committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and is comprised of representatives from the following government agencies: Ministries of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Public Health, Education, Transport and Communications, Commerce, Industry, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, National Economic and Social Development Board, National Energy Authority, Bureau of the Budget, Department of Regional Planning, Office of Environmental Policy and Planning, Federation of Municipal Governments.

Major groups and other participants include: Environmental Journalists Association, National Office of Women’s Affairs, Federation of Thai Industries, academic and research institutes, NGOs, and distinguished individuals.

The National Commission is holding regular meetings to prepare Thailand’s national sustainable development program for consideration by participants through multi-stakeholder consultations. The Thai National Commission is providing support to Thai non-governmental organizations to facilitate their registration with the WSSD organization in South Africa, as well as advising them on gaining permanent accreditation with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The Thailand National Commission is also coordinating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Office in Bangkok, to seek support from the Danish Cooperation for Environment and Development (DANCED) to prepare a comprehensive review of Thailand’s achievements and response to Agenda 21. The support also will make possible the preparation of a national strategy for sustainable development.
